Cannot control Bose system with remote from another brand | Bose Smart Soundbar
Determine the type of universal remote being used.
Universal remotes can be set up to operate other devices via three common methods:
- Learning - The remote learns the IR codes from the original device
- Brand and model name selection - The remote is set up by selecting the brand and model name/number via an on-remote display or by connecting the remote to a computer
- Direct code entry - The remote is configured by manually entering a numeric code retrieved from a list provided by the universal remote manufacture
What type of universal remote is being used?
The remote is a learning remote
Be sure the other brand of remote control is set up properly.
Be sure the universal remote with learning capabilities is configured properly for the system. For information on programming a learning remote to control a Bose system, see Using another remote to control your Bose system.
The remote is from a CEC-enabled device connected via HDMI
Disconnect and reconnect the HDMI cable at both ends.
Sometimes an HDMI cable can be partially inserted allowing only some but not all of the contacts at the end of the cable to make a connection. To be sure this isn't the case, disconnect and reconnect both ends of the HDMI cable.
If devices are connected with HDMI, look for a CEC setting in the menu of each connected device. If available, enable CEC.
Devices that support CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) can send control information (i.e. power, input switching, remote commands, etc.) back and forth while connected via HDMI. In the menu of the TV and any connected HDMI device, look for and enable CEC. (Note: Depending on the brand, CEC may be referred by a different name in the device menu. Reset the connected audio or video device.
Electronics may need to be reset from time to time—much like rebooting a computer. Disconnect power from the device for 30 seconds, then wait for it to start up.
